Reto, which means 'challenge' in Spanish, refers to the difficulty of making a high quality white wine in a warm area.
Albilla is a little grown variety distinct from other Abillos grown in Spain and the Canary Islands. The grapes for Reto are sourced from four different plots, close to the village of Villamalea in Cuenca. The vines are 40-60 years old.
On the nose, this wine has reductive smoky, flinty notes and benefits from aeration. It is tight and mineral on the palate with lively, fresh acidity and that characteristic saline finish. It is elegant and smooth and will develop well in bottle. This is a great match to oysters, cod, hake or lobster dishes or any creamy shellfish pasta dish.
