Information

We are amazingly proud and happy to say that our very own bottling of red wine has now landed. It was a project that started in autumn of 2019 to produce a red that epitomises us and what we do.

UVA 44 Tinto - is a collaboration with us and the organic Ego Bodegas in Jumilla.
Jumilla is a wine DO in Murcia province, South Eastern Spain.
It is a very traditional wine growing area in Spain, though for many decades the native grape Monastrell (known as Mouvedre elsewhere in the wine world) was produced in bulk here for blending into cheap wines. The region got left behind a little. But no longer!

As with many movements around food and drink within Spain, a new wave of pioneering artisans/producers/wine makers are going back to the Spain's historical past and natural attributes (climate, soils, terrain) to make stand out products.

So now in Jumilla, a hot dry part of the country, you have some superb producers making Monastrell reds the right way. By that we mean from low yielding very old bush vines, that are not bunched up. Monastrell is the primary grape in the UVA 44 blend, and the winery lives by organic practices (though doesn't pay for the organic stamp on the label). The grapes are picked from their best plots immediately surrounding the winery.  Syrah and Petit Verdot finish off the blend.

In a nut shell, the idea is a little like us - fusing international and native varietals, with passion, forward thinking and style, to create real quality but not forgetting the traditional roots.

The wine has spent just over 3 months in oak, to round it off and give a little depth. The 2020 is extremely fresh right now, bright and with a lovely acidity. It will evolve over time in the bottle, but is drinking fantastically on first sample on these shores.
To look at: Crystal clear, deeply coloured but with a lovely purple violet hue to the edge.
On the nose: Ripe cherries and a little herbal fragrance
In the mouth: Wonderfully ripe fruit, rounded mouthfeel, silky. Brings a smile to your face! Tannins are soft and the little bit of oak ageing has added a hint of vanilla and spice to finish.
